My camera is my tool…
it’s my stylus…
it’s my pen…

My camera is what I use to capture moments in time;
it’s what I use to remember and help others do the same…

Sometimes,
My camera is my poetic expression
when there are no words to express the joy I feel…

Other times,
My camera is that thing that gives me access to another world –
far beyond my reach…

My camera is my passion…
It’s one of the things that I light up at the thought of…

You see,
With my camera I capture those moments in time
that many never even notice…
I capture that sly look he gave her…
I capture the essence of her personality when she lets her hair down…
I capture the bond of a proud mother with her child…

With my camera… I do what I do…
And I love what I do….
And with my camera…
God allows me to share what I do….
And moments in time….
Those moments that in some way connect us…
When we cannot even share the same space…

Y’all,

This poem was inspired as I was trying to think about what story to tell with these images from a recent birthday party celebration.  At the event, there was a very talented and prolific spoken word artist/poet named Sekou Andrews.  What he was able to do with his pen and computer was amazing and unparalleled to say the least.   Even in all of his ability, he did not fail to acknowledge the greatest Poet of all times – the One that said, “Let there be light.”  See pictures below from this Virginia birthday celebration!
