Let’s Take a Long Walk…

The other day, it occurred to me that I only have one living grandparent, and with this revelation came an urgency to maximize my time with her!  It’s not that I think she’s going anywhere any time soon; it’s just that I want to make sure that I am available for the memories that I will be able to look back on later in life.  All this to say, since Grandma was recently in town for a few weeks, I made it a point to clear some time on my schedule to go and hang out with her.  Well, besides watching television and fielding questions about future plans and prospects, one of our activities was taking a walk down the street and then sitting down for a “breather” when it was all done.  Now y’all, my Grandma can be really candid sometimes, and she surely had me cracking up more than a little bit… I’m hope that one day – many, many, many years down the road – I too can get on the road and just spend time with my family and enjoy the simple pleasures in life, like a nice, easy and breezy walk down the street.

I have included pictures from our walk below, but first, I wanted to include a throw back picture from one of our country walks to the mailbox back in Texas.  Grandma still reminds me of these “loooong” walks that we had two and half years ago.  I truly love my Grandma and thank God for her presence in my life, for she points me back to Him and never, ever, ever, ever (Outkast throwback) stops believing in and supporting me!

The Moments in Between the Pose

As a photographer, I am often commissioned to photograph people in poses, and with some pre-planning and on-the-set adjustments, these can yield some very timeless photographs.  However, I find that some of the most authentic and memorable images happen when you catch those moments in-between the pose.  I recently went out on Saturday with my brother and a friend in DC, and I endeavored to capture the moments in between the pose and the moments that just happened, unscripted.

A Little fatiguedI believe he claimed to be tired as I was taking this image, but honestly, these are the types of images that I am used to capturing whenever bring out my camera… I think it’s a “don’t you have enough pictures of me” kind of thing.

Janora is ready to tell me somethingShe was telling a good story here, and I just love how much she lights up in the process!

Cracking Up!Now beyond the looks of avoidance, my brother will laugh so heartily in photographs – and the laughs are genuine.  I can’t remember who said what at this time, but he was going!

Janor pointingAt some point, she was telling a story of this salsa dancer.

Darren engaged in the story He was reminiscing with her of the salsa dancer’s wild dance moves.

Janora laughing in the cameraNow this was more of a pose amidst the beautiful residential streets.

She's looking for somethingNow most ladies can attest to this one… You have that huge handbag that can fit everything you need for an entire day, but when you go to look for something small, it’s truly a task.

Both are looking for something in that purseSadly, I am not sure if she ever found what she was looking for at that moment…

A legitimate attempt at a poseNow, I was trying to get a pose around this time, but some dogs were on the other side fighting and they had more of my subjects’ attention than I did.

Almost... doesn't countShe still has her eyes on those dogs… but I love her facial expression!

Camera FolksJust as I brought out my camera, so too did they…

Beautiful FlowersAnd this was what had both of their attention!

And now that I’ve shown all of the moments in between the pose, I figured I’d show one of the poses because they truly are a beautiful couple…

(drum roll please…)

A Beautiful Couple

Like Mother, Like Son…

Earlier this week, I had an opportunity to photograph a mother and son Pastoral team in Downington, Pennsylvania in a headshot portrait session.  They were both beautiful people with beautiful personalities, which makes my job easy!  As they intended to use the photographs as graphics on flyers, invitations, and other print media, I brought in a large green background that I could knockout with a photo editing program, and then set the majority of the images on a white background.  Now towards the end of the session, I found out that their church was connected to a church I had visited in Delaware a few times before.  It is truly amazing how small our world really is… and how interconnected we are, but just don’t know it yet!  I have included some of the images from this session below.
