Gimme a Little Sugar!

I had the opportunity recently to capture a beautiful Delaware family in a portrait session.  Even though I teach children, photographing them is always so unpredictable… Well, I have seen one thing that makes all children smile and laugh and light up… and that is sugar – or for the new school folks, candy!!!! See select images from this session below.

Personal Photo Editing :: Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!

As a photographer and teacher, there are so many photos – I mean thousands upon thousands of photos – that I just never edit or really look through on a real computer.  I prioritize paid projects of course, and then if someone asks me to do a special project, I will try to fit that in.  During the school year, I have to get my lesson planning done and sometimes I want to do fun things for the kids, like make a PowerPoint Presentation with YouTube links to make the lesson more “engaging!”  Well, with all of that, I hardly ever just edit my “for fun” photos or moments with family and friends.  Last year, I took photos of my cousins’ newborn, and I edited a photo or two in the airport and posted it online.  I later edited another 3 or so (and never posted them anywhere), but of those 100+ photos, I have hardly made a dent in them.  It all just takes time – that limited precious resource!!!!!!

Well, I am determined this summer to carve some time out to edit some of my personal photos – even if it means staying up a little later!  The truth is, I love looking at memories captured with a real camera (sorry cell phone paparazzis – there is only so much the iPhone or latest Samsung Galaxy can do for you!) because they allow me to see the joys of life and the bonds of family and friends!  With that in mind, tonight, I was browsing through some of my many unedited folders of photos from this year, and I ran across this image of my Dad and I that was taken at my parents’ house around his birthday back in February.  What I remember from that day is that he shared, “Vicky, you know you didn’t have to get me a gift.  You being here is enough for me.”  And even though my hair was really not done, I love this pictures because I see in it that my Dad’s words are true; he meant what he said.  Me being there was all it took to bring a smile to his face!

Never too old to dance!

Over the years, my biggest fan has always been my mom!  Even when my work was subpar, she was still there cheering me on, buying multiple copies of my work, etc.  Now, I have the pleasure of being her cheerleading squad!!!!  This past weekend, I saw my momperform in her second dance recital.  WoW!!!!  I was absolutely astonished that she was not only in twice as many routines as last year, but that she did some rolls on the ground and got her leg up… She was doing some of the same moves that the teens and twentysomethings were doing!  In my amazement, I am reminded that often times, we put ages on activities, and we limit people’s abilities.  However, where there is a will, there is a way!  If you put your mind to doing it, you can achieve it… just know that there may be some sweat that goes along with the success.  Well, my mother showed out in her recital last weekend, and I was so very proud of her!  As a matter of fact, our entire family was so very proud of mom!!!!!  Here is a quick snapshot for this past weekend.

My Bro-hem is Officially Married!

As much as I love photographing weddings, I had no desire to photograph my brother’s!  I wanted to be a guest and do those things that guests do, like take your time eating the dinner, dance the night away, sing out loud to my favorite tracks, and wear a cute dress with some bad heels!  I did just that a few weeks ago at my brother’s wedding.  So as a twist to the norm, I am actually in some of the images below, and hey I did not capture everything.  In fact, I did not even capture much!  But for those few moments I pulled that Nikon strap over my head, here is what I captured or asked someone else to capture (for the two images I am in).
